Ever since I can remember, I’ve been performing, usually at the piano, and sometimes in beautiful concert halls, at home, or in jazz clubs.
My love affair with the piano started when I was five years old. As I told my interviewer on a television station in Detroit, recently (where I was performing), “my mom said I started playing the piano and never stopped.”
As someone who skipped movies, the malls, in favor of practicing for hours (as many as 8-12) a day when I was a kid in school, my life was far from normal. (We can debate on the word “normal” at a later date….I’m sure you will all agree normal is boring). But there was a part of me that really longed to be just a kid and have fun, and my way of having fun was to interpret Debussy’s Preludes or play Chopin.
This newsletter is the start….I kept putting it off and off and am dipping my toe back into journalism after a hiatus (some don’t know I have written hundreds of stories, some winning awards for major newspapers), and finally embracing that divine intersection of journalism and the arts.
What you can expect from The Traveling Musician is a behind-the-scenes look into the life of an artist on the road: the places traveled, venues played and also stories of people who come and hear me. It’s a candid look into my world that is glamorous on the outside, but so detailed and very brutal sometimes on the inside. I hope you stay with me, and more so, hope you upgrade to a paid subscription so I can continue with my journey and compose and share stories on the road.
Thank you for helping me reach the first step! I have started becoming more well-known for blending Indian ragas and jazz, and currently am in the U.K. performing three shows. This piece of wonderful press just landed in my inbox from The Derbyshire Times!
And here’s where you can find my music:
